Love Your Pets | Fundraiser for the spcaLA | Los Alamitos

Love your Pets at the True Blue Studio in Los Alamitos February 10th from 9am to 5pm. 15 minute mini session and a 5×7 of your fur baby for a $25 donation to spcaLA and a new, unopened pet item.

Those of you that know me personally know that I LOVE all animals and that this is truly a cause near and dear to my heart. Please bring your pets down for photos and help pets that are waiting for their forever home.

If you have room in your heart and home, adopt your new best friend. There are so many wonderful animals waiting for someone to love at the shelter.

Please be sure to share this post. The more people that see it, the more money and goodies we can raise for the spcaLA.

**Since I am not able to accommodate horses in the studio, I’d love to extend this offer to my horsey pals as well. Call me at the studio at 562-299-2506 and set up an appointment for a barn call and we’ll do something on a different date.**

Brandon at 3 months…

This time we did an Angels themed session. I think it’s no surprise judging from these photos that my daughter and her family are Angels fans. 😀

Brandon at 7 weeks…

This session with my grandson was done to ‘model’ the new sock monkey outfit that I bought for the studio. I think he did great on his first modeling gig. 😉

My daughter Carole-Ann was kind enough to snag a shot of me giving my darling grandson a smooch! Muah!!!

Brandon At One Month…

A whole month has passed since my daughter gave birth to my grandson Brandon and it was time for his next photo shoot. After being completely impressed that he only got me and his daddy once, Brandon made up for it by peeing on us several times this round. The funny thing is that is something that is completely normal for a person that photographs babies on a regular basis. haha

I can see in the photos already how much Brandon has grown. He’s so much more alert and strong already. I recommend to clients that they have their baby photographed often during the first year because they change so much and as you can tell from this set of portraits, he’s changed a LOT in the last 3 1/2 weeks. Every baby does. This is why I’ll be ‘officially’ photographing Brandon every month. Of course we’ll all take other photos of him but doing professional portraits monthly will make sure that his growth through the first year is well documented.

Now that I’m caught up with the blog posts about him, I promise to keep my Brandon posts to one a month. Of course if you’d like to see more, friend me on Facebook. I’ll put my quick iphone shots as I take them. 😀

Baby Brandon Has Arrived…

My daughter Carole-Ann went into labor on her 23rd birthday two days before her estimated due date. Thankfully we had celebrated her birthday the night before because her special day was spent in labor and delivery bringing my grandson – the most beautiful baby in the universe (equal to my own four children of course) into the world. Don’t all mothers and grandmothers believe this – and rightfully so? 😉 After 22 hours of labor, my baby delivered her baby on her birthday with only 14 minutes to spare. She handled labor and delivery like a champ and her and my favorite son in law are natural parents.

Introducing my grandson… Brandon on the day of his birth. A day he will always share with his mother. 😀

And who could forget to add in one image of Brandon at one day old with his Great Grammy Dede – my mother.

Self Esteem and Unrealistic Expectations…

I’m a 41 year old not so thin woman in the middle of Southern California – the land of the ‘perfect’ and ‘beautiful’ with pretty good to great self esteem. Not perfect but definitely up there. That wasn’t always the case but I’ve learned over time to celebrate who I am today regardless of the fact that I’d like to improve a few things. My fitness, be a healthier weight and I always have the desire to improve myself inside as well.  Sadly too many women (and men) do not have great or even good self esteem.

Glamour Magazine recently printed an article about how 97% of women are cruel to their bodies daily. Plus Size Models Unite reposted the article and expanded on it mentioning how model Filippa Hamilton feels that she was fired for not fitting into Ralph Lauren’s size 4 sample clothing. They then proceeded to photoshop her into a parody of herself for a magazine ad. This to me is not only shameless, it’s irresponsible.

How sad is it that we, as women, can be so full of self hate every day? I photograph women nearly every day of my life and am saddened by the lack of self esteem that I see in some of the beautiful women that come into my studio. I listen to the plethora of teenagers running through my home and cringe when I hear them verbalize their thoughts that they are fat, ugly or ‘insert other self depreciating comments here’.

I’m sure there are some parents that are to blame for being overly critical and even mean in not raising their children to love themselves but I really blame the media for fueling the fire for constantly shoving image after image down our collective throats of models and actresses that have been literally photoshopped into something that is completely unrealistic and unobtainable.

All women (and men) are beautiful no matter if they are extra small, medium, large, extra-large, 5xl and beyond. Confidence and good self esteem is sexy at ANY size. I tell people that all of the time because I do see so many plus sized ladies in my business and it’s the truth. I don’t think you can effectively do what I do if you don’t believe that with all of your heart.

We need to start rejecting unrealistic images in the media and know in our heads and hearts that they are nothing but smoke, mirrors and photoshop. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-photoshop. I use it every day. Usually to clean up acne and other small things in images that will be gone in a week or so. And yes, even a bit more when warranted.  I’m able to do so little photoshop work on my client’s images because I am VERY good at posing for the most flattering image of a woman with any body type. I think it’s very important for my clients to see how beautiful they are without the photoshop illusion. We can’t photoshop our own bodies while we walk down the street after all. If I could do that, I’d be a gazillionaire. LOL

So…what are we going to do about the 97% of women that are cruel to their bodies daily? We need to see the images in magazines and other media as the illusions that they are. Stop yourself from being mean or critical of others. Parents, other relatives and friends should not be telling their children and each other that they are too fat, too thin, unattractive as well as other negative things. It’s ok to tell someone that you’re concerned for their health but there is a way to get the message across without being harmful. Be sure to tell at least one person a day that they are pretty, cute, handsome or even beautiful. I think you’d be surprised to find that not only did you make someone’s day, you also contributed directly to them starting on a path of good, maybe even great self esteem. Don’t forget to remember… Confidence is sexy at ANY size!

Love Stories at Salon Cheval…

Thayra Rothweiler, one of the stylists that works frequently in the studio also works at Salon Cheval in Whittier. She invited me to a photographic play date with the stylists there. The salon owner and stylists had decided on ‘Love Stories’ as the main theme and each of the stylists did different styling based on their individual themes. I had fun photographing styling and ideas from three different stylists.

Theme –  The Notebook

Happy Holidays!!!

It’s been an amazing year at True Blue.  So many families, babies, fur babies and boudoir sessions in our studio this year – I feel so blessed. As I was preparing holiday cards for my clients I realized that I’ve been so busy that not only have I been lax in blogging, I haven’t done a holiday card of my own for several years. It was definitely time to do one of my own.

This year has been a true whirl wind. My youngest daughter graduated from high school, my oldest daughter got married (& I gained a new son), we added a dog to our lives and lost him to kidney failure 6 months later, then our hearts were filled back up with the indefinite fostering (if needed) of one of my closest friend’s dog Jake.  I wrote a book that came out right after Thanksgiving that teaches other photographers and am speaking at DWF Convention in San Antonio Texas in January. I am a very lucky girl indeed.

Thanks to all my family and friends for putting up with my crazy schedule and for all the clients that I now consider friends. I couldn’t have done it without you all. 😀 Now for some photos…

My little graduate

My beloved Gucci – he is so missed.

My oldest daughter getting married. (image shot by my 2nd shooter  Richard Agajanian) Yes – I shot my own daughters wedding. Well… I did part of it – through lots of tears.  Thank goodness for great 2nd shooters – I couldn’t have done it without him.

My book…

And finally… our holiday card featuring Michael and I and our fur babies – Shadow (horse), Odie (champagne lab), Jake (black lab center & Kona (black lab at right).  Thanks to my friend Joy for not only hauling Shadow to our home which is not in an equestrian area but also taking the photos.

Happy New Year everyone. May 2011 be your best year yet.
